SERCOM launches wireless RS485 connection set
The first Wireless Xtender system was installed in horticulture as early as 2018. This system involved establishing a connection between the process computer and several field stations, located several kilometres from the computer. Due to the distance and terrain, a conventional cable connection was not feasible. This lead to the selection of a wireless option. This allowed for effortless communication within a range of up to 5 kilometres!
Since its initial implementation, many greenhouses worldwide have adopted this system. It has also gained popularity in outdoor cultivation. There it’s used for wireless control of irrigation systems and pumps, situated far from the process computer.
This in-house designed technology now serves as an alternative to wired communication using the RS485 protocol. A complete set is available at a reduced fixed price, enabling the establishment of a wireless connection between each device for data transfer via RS485. The system allows for communication within a 5-kilometre range and is a plug & play system, making it easy to assemble and self-configuring.
The system can transmit data in real-time from 75 baud to 115,200 baud. Multiple systems can communicate simultaneously with the central device in a star connection configuration.
