Interview with Hugo Nijgh, SKOV-SERCOM’s product manager, who has a wealth of technical and commercial experience within the company and industry

You have been working for the company now known as SKOV-SERCOM for quite some time. In your opinion, what is the greatest strength of this 40-year-old company, and why?

It’s truly remarkable to see what we – as a relatively small and 40-year-young company – have achieved together with our partners over the past four decades. The strength of the company, and of our team, lies in the fact that we develop, test, produce, and ultimately deliver almost all of our hardware and software in-house. This enables us to respond quickly and effectively to developments in the market or specific sectors, and to deliver the required solutions in a relatively short timeframe.

Some examples from the past 40 years include:

  • The CO detector, a globally used and essential product in the horticultural sector
  • Our process computer, which offers automated control for storage, irrigation, and greenhouse climate systems
  • The Repobox, an energy management system co-developed with Powerhouse
  • Labour registration terminals that we brought to market in partnership with Nitea

Each of these is a premium product designed for long-term use by end users.

What are your expectations for the company now that it has become SKOV-SERCOM?

As a company, we will continue under the name SKOV-SERCOM B.V., and we are ready to move forward. Our ambition is to work with both existing and new partners to further accelerate the global distribution of SKOV and SERCOM products.

We develop outstanding solutions, and we clearly see worldwide needs and challenges – particularly in storage, irrigation, and climate control – where our products offer precisely the solutions required. There is great potential for mutual benefit, and through collaboration we can contribute even more to efficient and sustainable production.

You will be taking on the role of Product Manager. What are your expectations for this position, and what aspects of it appeal to you the most?

Hugo @ Dag van de Tulp (Day of the Tulip)

I have enjoyed working at this company every single day for many years. As our hardware and software products are constantly being improved and enhanced with new innovations, I find it an exciting challenge to stay up to date – now more than ever – and to deepen my understanding of these developments.

What I particularly enjoy is being able to speak proudly about these innovations and explain them in practical terms – making it clear what these tools are capable of, and how they can provide real solutions to various challenges in the field.
